"You and I have met time and time again. We are Soul Mates, in the true sense of the word."

The Essentia 2000, or simply referred to as Essentia, is a main character in YIIK, who wields her trusty Von Blade. She becomes a party member in Chapter 4. She's immensely aware of her other selves, such as the Essentia 1999 and the Essentia 28-90.

Personality[edit | edit source]

A plastic android seeking an end to a vicious cycle.

The Essentia 2000 often delivers stories to other people, answering whatever questions they may have about the universe. They tend to be very direct with the things they say. The Essentia is obsessed with their parallel lives, and will frequently tell stories from the perspective of the life they had experienced. They also have a sense of humor, but they don't tell jokes very often.

Relationships[edit | edit source]

Alex[edit | edit source]

The Essentia does everything in her power to bond with Alex - attaching herself to Sammy and Vella with parallel lives, making herself out to be reliable and all-knowing at all times, even with concepts she can't fully know (which Proto-Michael calls her out on), coddling and appealing to Alex at every step, having intimate knowledge of even his most niche tastes in women and emulating them to entice him. She claims that they're Soul Mates - that she and Alex are always destined to be together in every reality, convincing him with her constructed authority. This narrative serves herself, as she ultimately wishes to use Alex for her own benefit.

Michael[edit | edit source]

The relationship between Michael and the Essentia is strained - in large part due to the fact that the Essentia only joins the party after Michael has gone Proto. Michael is by far the most combative towards the android during her time with the gang, sometimes bordering on hostile. He is the first to try to poke holes into the Essentia's assertions on the metaphysics of their universe, and even goes as far to assert that she is lying about what she knows - but never being able to point out why.

Vella[edit | edit source]

The Essentia has a very positive relationship with Vella, who is immediately open to the idea of her and Essentia being one in the same. Commonly referring to both her and Essentia as "I" or "me". This is in service of playfully antagonizing Alex, which is something they have in common. Upon first meeting Vella, the Essentia spoke with her alone and showed her "irrefutable proof" of their connection, and this seems to have instilled a great deal of trust in Vella towards the android. She is hesitant to question the information that the Essentia has provided to the group even when presented with contradictions.

Rory[edit | edit source]

Due to the limited amount of time spent together, the relationship between Rory and the Essentia is predicated on the questions posed to her by Rory and her responses. Beyond this, there is no evidence of how their relationship is on a deeper level. However, much like Vella, Rory takes the assertion of the Essentia and Vella being of the same soul as a bid of trust.

Claudio[edit | edit source]

The Essentia and Claudio share only one scene together, which does not provide any additional information regarding their relationship. We do know that while the Essentia will answer his questions regarding alternate realities, she is ultimately disappointed by the answers herself.

Chondra[edit | edit source]

Much like Claudio and Rory, Chondra only has a limited amount of time to interact with the Essentia, but within this time we do show that they must have at the very least a friendly relationship, due to Chondra being the only one to follow the Essentia after an argument with Michael caused her to leave the room. This is more likely than not because, just like Vella, she and the Essentia share a joy of bullying Alex.

Story[edit | edit source]

In the Winter of 1993, a physicist named Naila El-Amin was fascinated by the metaphysical results of her experiments. After her husband left, she became depressed and eventually became aware of the Soul Space. She wanted to leave and explore reality, but her body was too weak. In order to circumvent this, she aimed to create a robotic vessel for herself- The Essentia 2000.

In another reality, a Russian woman named Vladimira Tesar had similar goals to Naila El-Amin, but was not depressed or physically weak. She created her own Essentia 2000 before Naila did. It's implied the Essentia Vladimira made is the one that Alex meets.

The Tour of Parallel Lives[edit | edit source]

Essentia brings Alex on a tour to meet her parallel lives.

Oda Kreutzer[edit | edit source]

Oda Kreutzer lived in Pontresina, Switzerland, alongside her four brothers and parents. Oda spent most of her time alone, imagining writing and other worlds. While wandering the Pontresina Valley, she found "another world" with her other selves. She left for the Soul Space at the age of 13. The Essentia 2000 remarks about how she wasted her potential since she entered the soul space at such an early age.

Naila El-Amin[edit | edit source]

Naila El-Amin was a scientist in Sweden. She had three children, who she refuses to name. Her husband was kind to her and the children, but was often violent with the people that worked for him. Naila met another man who she fell deeply in love with, to the point she forgot her own name and family. After six weeks, her lover vanished. Naila returned home to tell her family what had happened, but everyone had disappeared. She realized she had developed a terminal illness, and began to construct The Essentia 2000.

Serna Yemina[edit | edit source]

Serna Yemina is a Palestinian girl dealing with financial troubles. She tells the story of a woman she loved. While Serna was often frustrated that happiness was temporary, when Serna was with her, she always felt happy. But after six months being with her, she died doing something Serna warned her not to do. Because of this, Serna entered the Soul Space. After finishing her story, she repeats the phrase "Why did you leave me?" to Alex and Essentia, as if she's on repeat.

Vs. Proto Ultima Alex[edit | edit source]

Originally the game would've opened with a tutorial sequence where you played as the Essentia. She meets up with Marlene, who helps guide her through her dungeon of the mind. Oddly, Essentia has no voice, with Krow asking if "he" took her voice from her. They head towards an alternate Alex and attempt to kill him, but are unable to.

The Ultima Ending seemingly picks up from where the cut tutorial left off. Essentia is face to face with Proto Ultima Alex, who she explains as a "proto-monster" she being trying to kill for a long time. She is surprised to see Alex and The Player there. She reveals her body is actually called The Essentia 9802, elaborating that she has not entered the Player's reality, as "...you do not yet face the choice of what direction your life would take." She remarks about how Alex took that role instead. Essentia helps Alex, the player, and their friends to defeat Proto Ultima Alex.

I.V[edit | edit source]

Not much has been revealed of Essentia's involvement in I.V yet.

Combat[edit | edit source]

Nothing is currently known about how Essentia works in I.V.

Essentia has a lot of unique attributes comparted to other party members. Instead of having HP, Essentia uses EN. Every attack Essentia performs will drain EN. When EN reaches 0, Essentia will be knocked out but will revive on her own in 5 turns. Only certain items will heal Essentia, such as the 9-volt. It's a waste to use normal HP items on her. When her EN isn't completely full, Defending is replaced with Charging, which allows Essentia to heal EN for a specified amount of turns. The more EN there is needed to be healed, the longer the amount of turns will need to be for a full heal. If Essentia fails their regular attack, she will immediately die.

Skill EN Description Notes
Beatdown 1% "Beat down!" Similar to Alex's Beat Down, Essentia pulls out her Von Blade which spins and must hit certain segments to gain a combo. The segments cannot be hit multiple times like in Alex's Beat Down. As the minigame progresses, it spins faster and faster until messing up. This is the only ability Essentia has which has a minigame assigned to it.
Self Destruct 100% "Self destruct causing massive damage!" Essentia's body shuts down for 5 turns and then deals damage to everyone- including party members. The move will not kill enemies, but it will drain most enemy's HP to near zero. A simple LP toss from Alex should enough to defeat everyone. After Essentia successfully self destructs, she will go down again for another 5 turns before being able to be controlled again.

You can use a battery to replenish their EN early, allowing her self destruct damage to activate far faster.

Missile Launcher 50% "Launch heavy projectiles at all enemies!" No minigame. All enemies are targeted and delivers 5 shots in total. If there is only one enemy, they will be hit multiple times.
Machine Gun 15% "Do light damage to all enemies." No minigame. This is a weaker version of the Missile Launcher skill. All enemies are targeted and delivers 2 shots in total. If there is only one enemy, they will be hit multiple times.
Sleep Shot 25% "Tranquilize a target." No minigame. Similar to Alex's Smooth Jazz, this inflicts an enemy with sleep, as well as dealing a little bit of damage.
One could use Alex's Smooth Jazz alongside Essentia's Sleep Shot to quickly get an entire enemy team to sleep.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • In the Old Combat, defending is still possible when not on full EN with Essentia if you quickly select it before it gets replaced with "Charge."
  • Essentia mentions one of her parallel lives is someone named Aalis Albert, but there is seemingly no other information about this character.
  • The Essentia in your reality is referred as "Essentia 997" in the files.
